day 3: km 1602, Coward Springs. 29 24'04.3"S 136 48'50.5"

The bloody wind didn't stop to blow the whole night, shaking the tent pretty badly; ultimate solution: earplugs... Morning, wake-up, pack and go... I left Port Augusta and headed North for the outback. Listening to the mp3 player with over 20Gb of my favourite music, I could learn a few songs from Jacques Brel and Benabar. The road starts to get less monotonous, nice little winding roads with an old train on the roadside. Small towns along the road: Quorn, Hawker (humm, it starts to get really warm here...), Leigh Creek (how can people live there? it is damn' hot...), Lyndhurst which is where the sealed road stops (Hot is it? Hot, it is...), Maree (a pain to get out of the aircon' car...). Yes, it is officially 45 degrees...
Maree is the start of the Oodnadatta track. The track is pretty rocky with last week's sandstorm that blew away all the dirt from the track. The lady at the gas station recommended driving no more than 80km/h, to deflate the tyres a little (big controversy about this one... anyone knows?)...
The track starts rough with these little very regular bumps. After 20 minutes of the greatest rodeo of my life, I realised that you need to find the right speed to pass these bumps: at 20km/h, Yeeeeaaa! Show me your stuff cowboy! At 80km/h, everything is smooth... It reminded me of this old French black & white movie where those 2 guys have to transport some TNT (can't be shaken obviously) in a truck and have to go though this kind of bumpy track... They had to adjust their speed in order not to feel the bumps. Too slow or too fast, the truck would just blow up. Who knows the title of the movie? I kinda forgot... I think Lino Ventura & Jean Gabin are the actors but I am not sure.

Just before reaching tonight's campsite, there are 2 springs: Blanche Cup & The Bubbler. Amazing to be able to find some water in the middle of the desert!

I wish I could get a dip, but it's forbidden...

Well, I was just delaying my wish to a 5 min drive to the campsite: Coward Springs.
The best surprise so far...
I let the pictures talk by themselves... And another thing: I was all by myself: no one, nessuno, personne... at the "reception" booth, there is just envelope telling you to slip 7$ for campers (I liked the honesty concept thingy...). The campsite is awesome with plenty of white parrots in the pine trees.

Find below other pictures from the day...

Check the size of the tyres...

Saviez-vous que Bioman et X-OR ont ete tournes en Australie ? Si si, j'vous jure, si vous cherchez bien, vous trouverez Force Jaune !

Maree is actually the start of the Oodnadatta track

Did I forget anything?

All good to go !

Souvenir from the outback for Sputnik...
